Osseous Surgery

Osseous surgery can also be referred to as pocket reduction surgery.  The goal is to gain access to the roots of teeth and the surrounding bone to remove tartar and bacteria and contour the bone for better architecture.

Goals of Osseous Surgery:

• To reshape deformities in bone and remove pockets around teeth
• Reducing Bacterial Spread
• Preventing Bone Loss
• Prevent tooth loss
• Facilitates ideal home care; makes it easier to brush and floss and prevent the further disease process

Gingivectomy

The gum tissue can be very thick and large covering the tooth surface making the teeth look short. This can happen because of medications, bone that extends too close to the surface of the teeth, or inflammation due to gum disease. A gingivectomy is a periodontal procedure that eliminates excess gum tissue.  This procedure can enhance aesthetics and improve gum health.

Frenectomy

A frenum is a naturally occurring muscle attachment, normally seen between the front teeth (either upper or lower). It connects the inner aspect of the lip with the gum.

This excessive pull can cause a recession.  It can also prevent teeth from coming together resulting in a gap between the front teeth.
